CJ is the second of four siblings in the Cline family here in Morgan Mill- I shot his sister Caitlyn’s senior pics a few years ago. He’s another Stephenville HS graduate, and a player on the Yellow Jackets State Champion football team. We floated around town to get some of these amazing shots, he was so patient, and a lot of fun to work with- usually these guys’ sole purpose in showing up for a senior session is to keep mama happy – and you know the old saying, “If mama ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy!” So hard to choose favorites on this one, so make sure to check out his slide show here!

Last summer I spent a couple days shooting out at Busby Quarter Horses in Millsap, Texas. Andrea & Jeff raise some amazing barrel and rope horses at their beautiful facility. They have a great staff that includes Ryan Lovendahl on the barrel horses, Shawn Darnall on the team roping horses, and Johnny Hudson on the calf horses. We got great portraits of their promising young barrel stallion Feature Attraction, as well as finished performance horses, mares, prospects and babies. We also got some action shots of several of their nice horses working under saddle. I always try to get fun candids, artsy images and shots of the everyday details of ranch life. I have known Audrey for several years now… she is part of our Erath County stock show family at Dublin High School She’s a very successful showman and is very active in many levels of 4H. She has set a wonderful example for my children. Although she shows calves, Audrey’s passion is her show goats- and she works very hard every day to get her animals ready for the show season. This girl is going to be successful in whatever direction she goes! I have really enjoyed my time with her over the last few years- I ‘m so proud of her, as I can only imagine her parents’ joy in the wonderful young lady they have raised. Best wishes, Audrey, for the new chapter in your life you are soon to embark upon! We will surly miss your pretty face after this show season! He’s also a talented football player on a team who is playing their way up the state champion ladder! SHS is definitely favored to win this year! This was my third opportunity to shoot Mackenzie and her beautiful horses… the first was a couple years ago for her senior session, then last year we did a shoot with her mare Pita’s first baby, Karma. Now she has a second baby out of this mare, a dun colt. She sure does stamp her babies as you will see, and they make for a beautiful trio during the session! I’ve known Calvin since, well, before he was even walking this earth! His dad Moose (as we all affectionately know him), has been friends with my Dad since I was a little girl. Calvin is a senior at Santo High School this year. He grew up through 8th grade going to our little Morgan Mill elementary school, where my kids go…. His sweet Grandmother, Shirley, works at the school and occasionally drives my kids home on the bus, and his baby brother Woodrow (who is my grandfather’s namesake) is in my son, Carson’s, class. So, we have many family ties, and I have watched as he has grown up to become such a polite, wonderful young man of Christ. We started the session at Ms. Shirley’s house where he spends much of his time riding and ended up in Patillo for some family shots. Here are a few favorites from his session and of the family! Kayla is the niece of some dear friends of our family… she is an A&M grad and has a great job in the animal industry now, and was just wanting a fun lifestyle session to celebrate where she is today. She has some great horses that really mean a lot to her, so they were the initial focus of this session. Before them, we had to get a little creative around their property and used a neat old house that had some great afternoon light. Last week I had the opportunity to shoot a great young sire in the performance horse world, Fiestas Gotta Gun. His bio reads “Curly (Fiestas Gotta Gun) is an own son of Playgun, who’s offspring have won over 7 million dollars in cutting, reining, and reined cow horse. His get are also making a name for themselves in the roping arena and in barrel competition. His dam is the great Firewater Fiesta, whose earnings exceed $800,000. She has already produced futurity, derby, and AQHA champions.” His owner Tammy Miller and her daughter Dani are very proud of him and look forward to raising babies and standing this horse to the public. Unfortunately he was injured before he had a chance to make it big in the arena, but they say his style on barrels mimicked that of his infamous mother! Keep an eye out for progeny of this great horse- he will certainly make an impact as a sire

Día de los Muertos {Day of the Dead/Sugar Skull} :: Styled Shoot

Sometimes as photographers we get in a rut- a creative rut….. And sometimes if you don’t allow yourself some time and space, you will go crazy and become so physically and emotionally burned out that you are no good to anyone, including yourself. Spring and fall are usually crazy times for me with my photography, but I really wanted to find a way to make this happen. I have had an obsession with the beauty and art that comes with the celebration of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, for a while now. It is an annual tradition on the first of November that originated in Mexico. It has been taking place for centuries where people celebrate the souls of their deceased loved ones. Beautiful ornately decorated sugar skulls are created in their memory. Alters are built and marigolds, candles, and sugar skulls are brought to the gravesides.

I had been dreaming up this “styled” shoot for about six months now, and finally made it happen (after MANY hours of scouring Pinterest for inspiration). But not without the help of several people, mainly my friend Ashlyn. I have known Ashlyn and her mom JonAnn for many years now, since she came to me for riding lessons when she was little. I have watched her grow up into an amazingly talented, loving and beautiful daughter, sister, friend, and now wife. I am so thankful for her to jump on board with my crazy ideas and help make this happen. She spent several nights “perfecting” the makeup to get it just right. I was blown away by the beautiful look she came up with. I was thrilled that JonAnn could join us to help Ashlyn get ready and be my great light assistant. Of course, being the horse girl that I am, we had to incorporate my most favorite steed, Sprat. My sister Hayden spent the afternoon with me getting the paint job on Sprat just right. And of course my other sister Lauren helped make sure my abstract equine skeletal system was pretty accurate, even though she couldn’t be there to help that day. He is also wearing some great red Gypsy Tails in his mane & tail to tie the look together! Carson was there to help assist- he made for a great light-test subject. I can’t forget to thank my husband Tony for supporting me, even though he doesn’t always understand these crazy tangents I get off on

Since there were no changes of clothes or EXPRESSION for this session, I had to get creative with light (full sun, shade, backlit, and off-camera flash), lenses (24, 50, 70-200mm L series on my 5DMarkII), and various locations here at the ranch. I have also edited a couple of these a little different than my standard “keep it clean and timeless” look to my editing style. And the some of them were so full of color that I didn’t want to do anything to them…. So please know that these editing tools are just that, tools to enhance your art. You will usually find more consistent editing style on my regular sessions….

We didn’t have many days to choose from to get this session done, so it was going to happen on this particular Sunday afternoon, rain or shine. And it did just that! It rained so hard about an hour before we planned on starting. You can see in some of the early images there are raindrops. Then the sun finally peeked through. We shot right up til sunset, when we got the fun set of off-camera images at the end. So, here are some of my favorites. You can click here to see the whole session on a slide show to music!!!

Alex if the daughter of a friend of mine from Hamilton. I got to shoot her High School senior portraits several years ago, and this time we were celebrating her college degree! Alex is a beautiful young lady who is pursuing a career in psychology, but still loves her Texas country roots. We started the session in Hico, then ended up back at the their ranch where she grew up. We got a fun mix of images including several with her mom’s cutting horse, Gator! We had a beautiful morning shooting for Jeff & Denyse Christiansen in Weatherford. They were needing some fun shots for a new website and advertising, and I think we accomplished that! I love the way his horses worked, so quiet and so broke….. After we worked horses we grabbed a few fun shots of them together before the arrival of their baby boy in a few months- doesn’t she look amazing?!?! Well, I’m behind on blogging, and thought I would start by posting this personal session. This is my beautiful sister Hayden- I’m the oldest of three. Our baby sister Lauren, who is just as beautiful, is the brains of the bunch- she made it all the way through vet school! Anyway, one thing we all have in common is our love for horses. We got some great rain the first of the year and I had always wanted to get some shots of someone running horses through water in our bottom coastal. What better models than my sister and my favorite horse EVER- Sprat! He’s one of our stallions we raised and stand here at the ranch. Then she got on Leo, a son of Sprat, we raised. So excited to finally share these with you!!!

Before this session ever happened, it was planned by the visions of this fun couple Melissa & Richard. Richard worked as a vet tech at the clinic with my sister Lauren in Bandera before she moved back here. He’s a cattleman, and she’s a horsewoman. One loves Chevys the other loves Fords. I can’t believe Crystal is graduating!! She has been a faithful babysitter for the kids the last few years in the afternoons while I’m out taking pictures at sessions. It is so hard to find good sitters you trust and that the kids love. She is getting an ag business degree at Tarleton, and already has secured a new job after she graduates. I’m so proud of her, but sad she’s moving on. Colton {senior} & Holly- Dublin HS Senior Photographer

You might remember the two sessions I posted earlier this spring of Audrey and Tucker- well, Colton is yet another senior that we have come to know and love over the last few years of hauling heifers to the major Jr Heifer shows. And just like the kids, we have become great friends with their family, too. Colton has from day one been Carson’s main mentor and idol. Even though there may not have been tons of verbal one on one coaching, he learned so much from Colton just by watching his every move. From hauling, to setup at shows, to showmanship, this young man is very serious about his cattle and treats them almost better than a signifcant other. And speaking of, Holly was around for the session, so of course we got some cute shots of them together. Since there is a promise ring on her finger, I would imagine this is only the beginning for this young couple. While editing, all I could do was smile at all the funny pics of the two of them, they definitely bring out the best in each other. Thank you Colton for being such an incredible role model for Carson, and Holly for taking Henley under your wing at all the shows so she would have a buddy. Love you both and the rest of the family! Casey’s mom Sonja is a good friend of ours. We have known the Reagans for a while and between 4H and baseball and other family activities, we see them around quite a bit. She is also the boss lady at the school cafeteria Casey is one of their 4 kids, and his sister Caty is one of Henley’s friends in kindergarten. Miss Jocelyn…. what a beautiful girl! I had a great afternoon with Jocelyn and her mama, that of course ended with horses I have known her daddy for a while now, he’s a great farrier, and shod my reiners years ago when I was showing. This young lady has overcome some pretty life-changing challenges that most of us adults will never imagine, but she has come through with amazing grace and strength. We started our session in downtown Dublin, then finished with her horses she rodeos with. I am so blessed to get to spend time with these young adults who are so excited about the new chapter ahead in their lives. Tucker {senior} & RA Brown Ranch {equine}- Throckmorton HS Senior, Equine & Ranch Photographer

I’ll give you a head’s up…. this post is long, but good! It has taken me forever to narrow down favorites from this session so you will see a bunch posted here, but please don’t miss the slide show for all the rest! Tucker’s senior photos are the focus of this session, but there is a good mix of him and his brother Lanham, too. These boys belong to good friends of ours Donnell and Kelli Brown of the RA Brown Ranch in Throckmorton, Texas. They are one of the cornerstone breeding programs of the Red Angus cattle we raise here at the ranch, and are known for the good bull sales they put on every fall. The previous post of Audrey’s senior pics I did the evening before, so we went to Throckmorton as a family and hung out with these two great families all weekend. I took pictures while Tony and the kids hung out and looked at cattle, etc.

Tucker is an amazing young man with so much talent, he doesn’t know which way to turn with it! Throckmorton’s 6 man football team won the State Championship, and his basketball team made the Regional Quarterfinals. He was named Player of the year in both sports! And he also plays in the marching band, which made the state finals. He is an accomplished showman, and has won numerous scholarships and had many wins with his Red Angus show heifers. Tucker was a state FFA leadership qualifier in Senior Chapter Conducting. He loves playing his guitar as well, which you will see in several of the shots.

But the main thing about both of these boys is you can see their love for the Lord, and it is very obvious that above all else, they are young men of God. We have been so blessed to be able to haul and show with great families like the Browns and have wonderful role models for Carson and Henley.

Lanham is quite the athlete, too. He plays football, basketball, as well as golf. You will see by the photos of him though, his heart is heavily swayed by the ranching heritage in his blood. He has a passion for riding and has started a few colts last couple of years. The one in the photos is his two year old prospect this year. I couldn’t help but grab some fun, punchy shots of him as we all navigated our way around to several locations Kelli had picked out for us to shoot at.

We have had the privilege of getting to know some great families the last few years showing our Red Angus cattle, mostly at the major Junior shows. It has been a bittersweet season this year because several of the kids we have become close to are seniors and moving on after they graduate- Audrey, Colton and Tucker. What a blessing it has been to have them as great role models for Carson and Henley. Two weekends ago we went up to Woodson and Throckmorton so I could take senior pics of Audrey and Tucker- you will get to see his session next week. We spent several hours floating around the Woodson area to get this fun set of images. I had a really hard time choosing favorites, so make sure to check out her slide show of images here!

I always try to get extra fun shots while floating around on a shoot- it makes for a nice surprise for the client, and potentially favorite images that can be used for websites, print, etc!

I had the privilege of capturing the love of this young couple last week. But this was not your ordinary couple… Mikey is one of our brave US Marines who is home for a visit before he deploys back to Afghanistan in a few weeks. Tawnni was determined to have updated photos of them before he leaves. We had a great session at the ranch that ended up with him wearing his camouflage as we floated around Morgan Mill. Dr. Lisa {equine}

Well, this shoot has been a long time coming… last fall Dr. Lisa contacted me after seeing another session I did for a mutual friend, and wanted to set up a session. Things got busy for both of us, and we never got around to finding a date. My sister Hayden is a patient of Dr. Lisa who is an OB/GYN in Fort Worth, and she delivered my precious baby niece London. She and Hayden were talking one day, and figured out the connection, so I actually got to meet her when London was born! She called last week and was in a bind needing a photo for her 2 page spread in Fort Worth Magazine, so with the help of several people we pulled if off (clients who graciously gave up their slot, Tony & Elizabeth who helped me get Cookie ready, Gina who helped “get ears” the entire session, etc).

So, as you can see, the theme of this “styled shoot” is Breast Cancer Awareness. Being an OB/GYN, this is a subject close to Dr. Lisa’s heart. She is the most kind, compassionate person who truly loves her job, the women she cares for and the babies she brings into this world. She always loved the Gypsy Tails shoot I did last year, so we pulled those out and painted a big pink ribbon on Cookie Monster’s hips. Here are some of my favorites from this fun session. Last week I drove a few hours east to Lee & Holly Francois’ place in Murchison, Tx. The whole family is quite accomplished in the NCHA show pen, with Lee being a recent Champion at the 2010 Super Stakes. They needed a session of fun images to update their website with… a little action, a few portraits, and some details of their every day life. I really enjoyed getting to know this sweet family. Their daughter Sydney was such a polite, outgoing young lady who is quite a hand herself. The weather was beautiful, and so was their place. This “sweet girl” is really not a newborn…. she decided it was time to make an early entry into this world in the 30th week of mama’s pregnancy. She actually got to come home from her long stay at the NICU on the week of her term due date. So she’s right on track now and has been such a blessing to her parents Courtney & Aaron. Gypsy Tails {equine}, Texas Equine Photographer

I recently went to Whitesboro to shoot a session for Amber and her crew at Gypsy Tails. This is one of the hottest new trends in the performance and rodeo horse industry. They are taking horse hair and dying it over 40 different colors and several patterns to create an easy way to attach a little color and bling in your horses manes and tails. So much fun! They can hardly keep up with orders right now, and have several ambassadors for the product, including the Cowgirl Chicks drill team. Amber was needing some images for the new website and advertising, so after shooting all the different colors/styles we got some beautiful images of her and Jaf, her longtime sweetheart who was totally supporting 100% anything she wanted to do. And her sweet niece Madeline was a great model for us, too.

But there is a bittersweet ending to this story…. I found out from Amber that earlier this week the beautiful palomino stud we used as our model unexpectedly passed away. What an incredible animal he was, and was so good for the shoot. Just goes to remind us that we should treasure every minute with our loved ones, friends and those important to us because we never know when it will be our time. God is in control.

I have had the privilege of knowing this sweet family for a few years now. Tillar is one of three Murray daughters that live in Fort Worth, but whose hearts are at the ranch with their horses in Morgan Mill. These young ladies (and their beautiful mom) have made quite impressive horsewomen. Tillar made it to the Texas Junior High Finals this year in several events, and you will see her all of her trusty steeds in this post that helped her. This sweet family has a special place in my heart, beginning with a friendship that started many years ago with these great kids’ mom, Kari (you will see her looking ever-so-beautiful with the kids in one of the images below). I started giving this incredible young lady, Kate, riding lessons when she was 9… and Kari helped me to channnel my eye for photography and was my first mentor behind the lens. And now Kate is off to college in Abilene to pursue a degree in photography herself! Her big brother Greg is working on his degree at Texas A&M. They have two older siblings that share a love for Christ and the rural lifestyle, as they have all grown up on a dairy in Dublin. I met them for a quick session last week when the family was in town for Kate’s graduation. So proud of you, Kate, and can’t wait to see the incredible photographer you will become. Destin {bridals} Fort Worth Stockyards, Texas Bridal Portrait Photographer

Let me preface this post by saying : I DO NOT SHOOT WEDDINGS! I DO NOT SHOOT WEDDINGS! I DO NOT SHOOT WEDDINGS!

Ahhh… that feels so much better. Ok, here’s the deal- I really don’t have the time to dedicate to shooting weddings right now, and being away from my young family on the weekends, and the stress is just not what I want at this point in my life. As a bride, you deserve a photographer who can put their whole heart into your special day, and who loves everything about weddings.

On the other hand, I do LOVE fun, personalized portrait/lifestyle sessions. I understand as a bride you will probably get a better package deal that includes bridals, engagements, and wedding day coverage. BUT, if you really think that you like my style and think that we could come up with some really fun engagements, bridals, or even boudoir sessions, please don’t hesitate to contact me This is when the fun stuff happens!

On to the subject that matters most here…. DESTIN!!! Destin is a family friend, and our families have several things in common… We are partners with them on a commercial set of Red Angus, the same set you heard about being in danger at their ranch on Possum Kingdom Lake during the devistating fires last month (you can see some incredible images and story here). Their home was one of four that was spared out of 50+ in their housing division, and the cattle are ok. God is good! They also own Lonestar Ranch and Outdoors in Cleburne, Texas. This is how we initially met the Cooks, and they have become a valued dealer for Tony’s company, ADM. More importantly, they have become really good friends.

Destin married Levi Hardcastle, and they are going to live in Cleburne now. The theme of their engagement and marriage is “2nd Love,” and they are living by the verse “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17. Henley and Carson were both in the wedding last weekend, which was beautiful! We shot Destin’s bridal portraits in Fort Worth at the historical Stockyards. We started the session at the Stockyards Hotel, then moved about the area for the rest of the session. True to her fun, laid-back personality, she wore her silver glitter Toms and insisted on a set of balloons instead of flowers The last image you will see was taken after the ceremony when they were getting their wedding party/family pictures taken by their WEDDING photographer….

I did her older daughter’s senior pics last year, CoriAnn. These girls are just beautiful, and I really enjoyed this session. She brought along the family’s new puppy for a few shots, too. One last round of senior pics for Reilly…. you may remember the first session from last fall at the high school, and the prom pics a few weeks ago. These are his more casual pics, taken at a family friends’ place down the road where he frequents to go fishing. Reilly’s mom Janelle keeps Henley for me when I have busy days during the week. Kinda sad… my little one will be going off to Kindergarten in the fall, and her youngest is starting college! We had a beautiful afternoon to shoot Mackenzie’s pictures here at the ranch. We shot a few around here, and at the neighbor’s place, then got her ponies out so they could shine in the spotlight with her Mackenzie is homeschooled, and rodeos a lot. She is gearing up to go to college and work for James & Emily Barton and their rope horse program for the next chapter in her life. DJ is a senior at Stephenville High School… amongst other sports and activities, he loves football and wanted part of his session in a location that he has spent many hours over the last few years- the practice field! This is where my heart is… {David Stoecklein Workshop at Saunders Twin V Ranch}

Two weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend a workshop with David Stoecklein, a photographer known world-wide for his incredible images of the American West. Cowboys, ranchers, livestock, landscapes, etc. are usually the main subjects, but he is adamant about telling a story with his images, and capturing a way of life that is too soon dying.

He set up his workshops at the Saunders’ Twin V Ranch in Weatherford. This family has been ranching for many generations and strives to preserve the “cowboy way” in everything they do. Thomas went above and beyond to set up some incredible shots for us with his great crew. Many thanks to the family for putting up with us and all their hard work.

I mostly enjoyed hanging out with photographer friends and taking in the whole lifestyle experience. Most of the time I wish I was the one horseback cowgirlin’ instead of behind the camera- that’s where my heart is, and the reason why I got into photography :)

You will remember Brooklyn from her appearance in her boyfriend Micah’s session a few weeks ago…. They were also just crowned Stephenville HS Prom King & Queen last weekend- talk about a popular pair!
